Brazilian brown beans, 1a quality, 1kg bag
The Carioca bean is a variety of common bean. It is the most popular bean in the US and northwestern Mexico and is cooked in most cases, pureed (as a filling for burrito) or eaten fried. In Brazil, they are used in the light version of the national dish Feijoada, which is served in everyday life as Feijão com Arroz (beans with rice). Carioca beans and rice served with cornbread or corn tortillas are often a hearty meal where meat is unavailable as an important protein source.
Because of the spotty shell that resembles the skin of the Pinto horse, the beans are called in Spanish Pinto beans. In Portugal they are called Feijão Catarino.
